❤️ Why You'll Love It

Hot chocolate and cold weather go hand-in-hand, especially on a cold winter day. There is nothing like relaxing on your couch in front of a fireplace with a steaming cup of creamy keto hot chocolate during the Christmas season. It just warms you up from the insides and makes everything feel instantly better!

If you have been searching for an easy keto-friendly hot chocolate recipe for cold days, you're in luck. This sugar-free hot chocolate recipe contains no added sugar and is gluten-free and keto friendly. I love that this recipe also helps with my chocolate craving.

You can purchase hot chocolate mixes from the grocery store, but if you're on a low carb diet, chances are they contain a ton of sugar and corn syrup. Making your own low carb cup of hot chocolate will help your chocolate fix and won't spike your blood sugar.

🧾 Ingredients Used

Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe (2)

You only need a few ingredients for this hot chocolate drink.

  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: this gives a good chocolate flavor without any added sugars. You can use any brand you like, but I like to use Viva Cacao powder for its deep chocolate flavor. Bear in mind that some brands are more bitter than others, so make sure you use a good quality cocoa powder.
  • Unsweetened Almond milk: This forms the liquid base for this recipe. You can also use coconut milk.
  • Heavy whipping cream:The combination of heavy cream and almond milk makes this drink so rich and creamy.
  • Monk fruit sweetener:I like to use monk fruit sweetener as my sugar substitute. You can use your favorite sweetener instead, like swerve, stevia, truvia, or allulose.
  • Salt:This is my secret ingredient to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa powder.
  • Vanilla extract:For an extra dose of flavor!
  • Whipped cream: I like to top up this keto hot chocolate with sugar-free whipped cream, which tastes just like the real thing, but this is totally optional.

🔪 How To Make This Recipe

It's so easy to make this keto hot chocolate recipe.

  • First, measure out all of your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Place a saucepan on the stovetop and pour in some water.
  • When the water boils, add the ingredients.
  • Then, using a small whisk, mix all the ingredients on medium heat until well combined.
  • If you want to add a little something extra, treat yourself to a bit of whipped cream on top. To add even more chocolatey flavor, you can shave in a bit of dark chocolate and let it melt right into your drink.
  • Your sugar-free hot cocoa recipe is ready!

🥫Storing and Reheating

This homemade keto hot chocolate tastes best when made fresh, but you can make a bigger batch and store it in an airtight container in the fridge if you want to.

Reheating this keto chocolate drink on the stove is better than using a microwave because you have ultimate control over how hot it gets. It is best to warm the hot chocolate till it begins to steam, but not all the way to a boiling point.

An easy way to make your own sugar free hot chocolate mix is to mix the dry ingredients together and store them in a mason jar. To use this easy mix, pour it into a pot of hot water and mix over medium heat.

💭 Tips and variations

  • You can omit the heavy whipping cream or replace it with coconut cream or cashew milk for a dairy-free option.
  • Also, you can add some cinnamon or nutmeg for a fall, earthy flavor.
  • For a wonderful variation, add some sugar-free chocolate chips or sugar-free marshmallows.
  • Cocoa powder contains no sugar and tends to be bitter. Rather than putting in a ton of sweetener, a pinch of salt helps reduce the bitterness of this keto chocolate drink.
  • Heavy whipping cream adds much-needed fat to this recipe, but don't go overboard with it. It is very calorie-dense, and if you want to lose weight, a lot of this cream might stall your weight-loss efforts.
