You’ve requested tiramisu a lot, and you’ve asked for dessert recipes you can make when you don’t have a lot of time, so by popular demand, I’m bringing you my easy 10 Minute Tiramisu recipe!

[Make Homemade Mascarpone Cheese for this Tiramisu!]

What is Tiramisu?

One of my favorite Italian desserts is classic tiramisu. Rich and creamy in texture with hints of espresso, almond, and chocolate. What’s not to like? As a professional chef, I’ve made my share of classic tiramisu recipes but I always thought it took a few more steps than it should. So, I decided to revamp a classic tiramisu recipe to include all the flavor, but less of the fuss.

It will be our secret because nobody needs to know my easy 10 Minute Tiramisu Recipe took you less than half the time to prepare. The few steps I’ve simplified mean I can really enjoy entertaining and not just end up stuck in the kitchen when I make this recipe as something special to enjoy with family and friends.

How to Make My Tiramisu Recipe in 10 Minutes

What makes this 10 Minute Tiramisu different from the rest? Well, usually this dessert requires you to separate eggs, make a custard, then fold that into another mixture with whipped cream and mascarpone cheese — and that’s just the first step. Bottom line, all you need to make a killer tiramisu is fresh heavy dairy cream, mascarpone cheese, sugar, and good vanilla.

Now all you have to do is whip these ingredients together, and layer with classic ladyfingers. I swear to you no one will be saying “I really miss the eggs,” especially because they’ll be too busy swooning over how gorgeous your tiramisu is.

And be sure to give my Homemade Ladyfingers recipe a try.

Can’t Find Ladyfingers? Make Them!

Equally as important as the mascarpone mousse filling is the ladyfinger biscuits that line the tiramisu.

While store-bought will do here, they can be hard to find or you might not have them on hand. Not to worry, because I have two different ladyfinger recipes! One is for classic Homemade Ladyfingers and the other is for Egg-free Ladyfingers. Both of these recipes are super simple cookie recipes that have just a few basic ingredients.

The best part about using my ladyfingers recipe in My 10 Minute Tiramisu recipe is knowing the finished product is 100% made from scratch. There is a huge difference in flavor and texture, and not only is this the fastest tiramisu you’ll ever make, but the most decadent!

How to Top A Tiramisu Recipe

To finish off my 10 Minute Tiramisu recipe, I put a little extra love into the presentation and this too is a cinch. I simply pipe little mounds of the sweet mascarpone mixture all across the top of my tiramisu and sprinkle with cocoa powder.

Can You Make 10-minute Tiramisu With Other Flavors?

Once I made this 10-minute classic, I was inspired by you Bold Bakers to experiment with other flavor variations. Many of you asked if more chocolate could be added or if there are other flavorings besides the coffee.

With these questions, I went into the kitchen and created two different variations on my 10-minute tiramisu: my 10 Minute Summer Berry Tiramisuand my10 Minute Chocolate Tiramisu. That means a fruity variation for those that love fresh bright fruity flavors, a gorgeous chocolate version for all those chocoholics out there. This recipe doubles down on the chocolate by adding a layer of rich chocolate mascarpone mousse!

My 10-Minute Tiramisu recipe takes all the fuss out of a classic Tiramisu by simplifying the method while delivering you maximum delicious results!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup(8floz/225ml) heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup(8oz/225g) mascarpone cheese , room temperature (see substitute idea below)
  • 1/3 cup(2 1/2 oz/71g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Amaretto liquor or Brandy (optional but yummy!)
  • 2 cups(16oz/450ml) espresso or STRONG coffee at room temperature
  • 1 pack Ladyfingers (Boudoir biscuits/Savoiardi. Look for egg-free ladyfingers if needed)
  • Cocoa powder for dusting the top

Instructions

  • Beat whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  • Add in mascarpone cheese and amaretto (if using) and continue to whip to stiff peaks.

  • Dip ladyfingers in coffee (and brandy if using) and place in an 8×8 pan to make the first layer – you can fit about 7-9 cookies in each layer. Don't let them soak as the will fall apart, just a quick dunk in the coffee is enough.

  • Spread half of the whipped cream mixture on top of the first layer of ladyfingers. Repeat process with the second layer of ladyfingers and cream mixture.

  • Dust the top of dessert with cocoa powder using a sieve. Refrigerate for about 2-4 hours (it gets even better in the fridge and is a perfect make-ahead dessert).

Recipe Notes

1 cup Mascarpone Cheese Substitution: Cream together 6 oz. softened cream cheese, 2 Tablespoons sour cream, and 3 Tablespoons heavy cream.
You can make an egg free sponge cake for this using my egg substitute chart.
If using alcohol, add the Amaretto to the whipped cheese and cream mix, and the brandy, or rum, to the coffee mix. Use one or the other, or both!

Hi Gemma, I tried this recipe in an 8×8 container and it turns out that the one cup whipping cream and one cup mascarpone wasn’t enough for two layers. I only had enough for one layer and half of the top layer. What did I do wrong?

For U.S. based readers – I used cold Great Value Heavy Whipping Cream and Bel Gioioso mascarpone cheese right out of the fridge (both bought in Walmart), and everything turned out great. So if you are not able to find fresh dairy, like Gemma recommends, maybe you could try these brands.

Love how easy and straightforward the recipe is. Really yummy too! Gave me a great idea (I might use the recipe as a base and make bizarre additions to it) for the small café I have in the Philippines! Thank you Gemma!

I wanted to make you aware that the bar on the left side of the web page (Tips, Video, Recipe, Comments, share, Save) is in the way of the text. I don’t see a way to remove it or a slide-bar at the bottom to move the page out of of this bar’s way. It is kind -of annoying. However, this recipe looks so yummy! I cant wait to give it a try! 🙂

I know of some people who LOVE tiramisu, but are not much for coffee (as in, they wouldn’t just sit and drink a cup of coffee, but a serving of tiramisu now and then is enjoyable). For people that are not regular “coffee drinkers,” I recommend using either a plain (unflavored) or a vanilla “cold brew”. Although I AM a “coffee drinker,” I bought a 10 oz bottle of Chameleon Vanilla Cold Brew. It was the perfect amount for a quick “dunky dunky” for the ladyfingers.

FAQs

What not to do when making tiramisu? ›

Roberto Lestani, who for the occasion revealed to us the 3 mistakes not to make to prepare a stunning tiramisu!
  1. 1: excessively whipping the mascarpone! ...
  2. 2: once together, don't immediately mix the yolks and sugar! ...
  3. 3: Neglect stratification!

Why is my tiramisu not creamy? ›

The choice is yours, even though connoisseurs of this dessert will always tell you to choose savoiardi. In fact, the result is completely different if you use these biscuits, which are tall and spongy and absorb less coffee. As a result, the consistency will be less creamy and slightly more compact.

Can I substitute cream cheese for mascarpone in tiramisu? ›

The Best Mascarpone Cheese Substitute

To make this mascarpone substitute, mix together 12 ounces of room temperature cream cheese (1 ½ blocks) with ¼ cup of heavy whipping cream and ¼ cup of sour cream until combined.

Why is my tiramisu so runny? ›

The other main reasons the mixture would be runny is if other liquid ingredients have been added first, or if the mascarpone has been beaten so much that it has curdled (then you will get water separating out from the cheese curds).

How long should tiramisu sit before serving? ›

Chill the tiramisu: Cover the tiramisu and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or up to 24 hours to give the tiramisu time to firm up and for the ladyfingers to soften. Serve: Dust with cocoa before serving.

Is it better to use soft or hard ladyfingers for tiramisu? ›

4. The best ladyfingers for this recipe are very dry and crisp. They're often called savioardi and are imported from Italy. If you can't find these and your supermarket only has soft, cakelike ladyfingers, you'll need to let them dry out in the oven first.

Is heavy cream the same as heavy whipping cream for tiramisu? ›

Heavy whipping cream: Some tiramisu recipes use whipped egg whites and some use heavy cream that's whipped to medium or stiff peaks. While both are delicious, I prefer to use heavy cream. Your cream should be very cold so that it whips up properly. Be sure to use a heavy cream that's at least 36% fat.

What can you substitute for heavy cream in tiramisu? ›

Using egg whites instead of cream: Some authentic recipes for tiramisu use whipped egg whites instead of whipped cream. Tiramisu made with egg whites is lighter and more airy. To make our recipe with egg whites, whip 3 egg whites until they hold stiff peaks.

What is Costco tiramisu made of? ›

While a tiramisu is normally made with soaked lady fingers, this cake mostly uses coffee-soaked sponge cake with creamy mascarpone filling. It is then topped off with a sprinkle of chocolate powder, chocolate shavings or espresso beans.

Can you use Goya lady fingers for tiramisu? ›

They were perfect for my Tiramisu. Sweet and spongy, the perfect compliment to the delicious coffee flavor of the dessert. I will be buying them again. They made a great tiramisu!

Is it OK to use raw eggs in tiramisu? ›

The recipe I offer you is for the classic Italian Tiramisu, which contains raw eggs. In our family we don't mind eating raw eggs, but for some people that might be unacceptable.

Can I use sour cream instead of mascarpone? ›

Substitute 1 cup of mascarpone with 1 cup of a sour cream and cream cheese mixture. To make this mixture, use 1/2 cup of sour cream and 1/2 cup of cream cheese.

What can you use instead of ladyfingers in tiramisu? ›

Graham Crackers: Graham crackers can be used as a substitute for ladyfingers in tiramisu. They have a similar texture and can absorb the coffee and liqueur mixture. Layer the graham crackers in the tiramisu as you would with ladyfingers [2].

What is the closest cheese to mascarpone? ›

Mascarpone has a one-of-a-kind silkiness and a milky flavor profile but ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, full-fat cream cheese, and Requeson cheese are all similar to mascarpone cheese.

Why don't you cook the eggs in tiramisu? ›

Eggs in tiramisu

In most traditional tiramisu recipes, you'll find egg yolks. This adds richness and a decadent flavor to the mascarpone filling. While true classic tiramisu recipes use raw egg yolks, I prefer to cook them to eliminate the risk of salmonella, so that's what this recipe calls for.

Is it better to leave tiramisu overnight? ›

For the best results, tiramisu needs at least 6 hours in the fridge before serving. A couple hours will do, but the next day the triffle (it's an Italian style triffle!) will be much more amalgamated, and the flavors will have blended.

Should tiramisu sit overnight? ›

Serving Tiramisu

Once built, the tiramisu needs to chill for at least eight hours but ideally 24 before serving. The lady fingers will continue to soften and the tiramisu will set to a sliceable consistency. Just before serving, dust the top of the dish with cocoa powder or shaved chocolate. Read reviews!

Does tiramisu need to rest? ›

Tiramisu is served cold, which is one of its main attractions as a dessert. Its perfect temperature is between 5-6º C, therefore, after processing it, it is essential to immediately place it in cold storage for a recommended resting time of 4 to 12 hours.
